About Taekwondo America
What is TaeKwonDo?
TaeKwonDo
is a Korean martial art that was originally developed to train members
of the military. It combines self-defense with courtesy, integrity, perseverance,
self-control, and discipline. We teach the International TaeKwonDo style
of patterns. If you have previously trained in martial arts, you may be
looking to train in the same style as you took before. Make sure you ask
about having your previous rank honored at your new facility.
Who Should Take TaeKwonDo?
TaeKwonDo is for anyone looking to improve their fitness
level through martial arts. We even have a curriculum specifically designed
for 3, 4, and 5 year-olds, the “Little Dragons Program”. Many people
aren’t willing to come to try class because they’re afraid
they’ll look out of place. However, no one gets everything right
the first time they try. Even black belts still make mistakes. The important
thing is that the effort is there.
Frequently Asked Questions
How
often a week should my child or I come to class?
We recommend that you come at least twice a week, but you may come as
often as you like.
What if my child uses TaeKwonDo at home
or at school?
Tell us IMMEDIATELY! Students should never use TaeKwonDo on someone else.
When is testing?
We hold testings once every two months so that students may earn their
next belt. The costs are: $50 for White through Senior Blue Belts; $55
for Brown through Red Belts; $85 for Senior Red Belts and above.
What is expected of the students?
Instructors expect students to try their best. While they may not be able
to do everything on the first try, a good attitude and strong effort are
expected. Bad attitudes, unsportsmanlike conduct, and goofing off in class
will not be tolerated.
How long does it take to receive a black
belt?
It takes approximately two years to reach the rank of black belt. However,
it takes many people longer. It is important to set goals, such as testings
and tournaments, in order to stay motivated and make sure you stick with
it.
